Limbo is the fallback server on Hypixel. It is used when players are AFK (away from keyboard), for the queue when the server is full, or if the server needs to kick but not necessarily disconnect the player. Limbo was designed sometime in 2012-2013. To get out of limbo, just type /lobby and the name of the game you want to enter, or move around if you were AFK.

AFK
Players are most commonly routed to limbo because they are AFK and haven't made any movement inputs when in a lobby for an extended period of time. When routed to limbo for this reason, players will automatically be put in lobby they were last connected to after they move or interact with anything. Players can also use the /lobby [lobby] or /l [lobby] commands to escape limbo.
Queue
If the Hypixel Server or the Alpha Hypixel Network is full, players will be routed to limbo and be put in a queue. Players with ranks have a higher priority in the queue than those without them. While in limbo, players can run around and interact with the world, and a message in the center of the screen displays their current position in the queue. Due to the large server capacity on the main server, the queue is rarely used, though it does appear more often on the Alpha Network, especially when a new update is rolled out.

Kick
Players can also be routed to limbo for miscellaneous reasons when the server needs to kick the player from a lobby or game but doesn't have to necessarily disconnect them from the server. The "disconnect.spam" kick is a popular method for players to force their way into limbo. To get to limbo this way, the player just needs to spam chat messages very fast, commonly done by repeatedly typing "/" over and over again. Players may be routed to limbo when lagging, when stuck in ghost blocks, or though other glitches that cause the server to error.
Internet Issues
Sometimes, players will be routed to limbo when there is a server or client issue with the internet connection to Hypixel.
Description
Limbo contains is a small house situated on a floating island in the End. All blocks are breakable (they do not drop no matter what block), but no changes are visible for other players or persistent after you leave limbo (if it is visible, the limbo will be you falling off over and over again). If you press the middle mouse button, it acts just like Creative Mode and you get the block that you are looking at. You can craft, but only in your inventory. Right-clicking a crafting table does nothing. If you break one of the windows, you can hop on a few platforms to get to the top of the roof. Apart from that, there is nothing else of value in limbo. If you fall into the void, you will keep falling indefinitely. You will also have a row of hardcore hearts at the bottom of the screen, although the player appears to not be able to die.

Trivia
- The only interactions the player can do with a block (except breaking or placing it) are placing a flower in an empty flower pot and open/close a fence gate. The player cannot interact with the crafting table, the cauldron or other blocks in a special way.
- There are actually a number of items you can craft by middle-clicking to get a stack, such as Carpet, Pink Carpet, Red Carpet, Light Blue Carpet, Orange Carpet, Pink Dye, Red Dye, Light Blue Dye, Orange Dye, Pink Wool, Red Wool, Light Blue Wool, Orange Wool, Crafting Table, Stick, Oak Wood Planks, Wooden Pressure Plate, Stone Pressure Plate, Lever, Wooden Button, Stone Button, Stone Bricks, Polished Andesite, Polished Diorite, and Andesite.

- When a friend is in Limbo, Hypixel describes the said friend as either "[Player] is in an unknown realm" (which is the message when Hypixel does not understand where the player is) or "[Player] is wandering in Limbo".
- If you are using the autotip modification, /limbo will take you to limbo.
- In earlier versions of Hypixel, you could go to the Limbo using the command /nostalgia.[1] Nowadays, this command gives the same outcome as the /help command.
- On one of the oldest versions of Limbo, the message "Herobrine joined" could appear.[2]
- You can middle-click on a block while in your inventory, and it will generate a stack of that block.
