Technoblade was a prominent player on the Hypixel server, best known for his commentary videos, incredibly high Bed Wars win streak, and contributions to one of SkyBlock's most memorable arcs. Unfortunately, he died in June of 2022 as a result of sarcoma cancer.

About

Technoblade's video catalog consists of commentaries with SkyWars or Bed Wars gameplay, videos with friends, SkyBlock, Dream SMP, SMP Earth, and Minecraft events. His old catalog consisted of Blitz SG and SkyWars highlights. The videos are casual with with his iconic monotone voice and little to no video effects.

Origins

Technoblade originally started making videos on a channel called StudioLORE where he would post Roblox and Team Fortress 2 videos.^[1] However, in only four years, it grew to a subscriber base of 50. When he realized he needed to make money, he discovered that some creators were making funny gaming videos and getting paid for it. He found inspiration within himself and launched the channel Technoblade.

Joining Hypixel

Blitz Survival Games

With his previous experience with Faction and PVP Minecraft servers, he would quickly dominate every server he joined. He later joined Hypixel, making Blitz Survival Games videos and then Blitz SG montage videos of him dominating the server's top players. This would allow him to amass over 14K subscribers in a year and a half after launching his channel, allowing him to finally earn money. He would then spend that money on YouTube ads promoting his YouTube channel, which he claimed would gain him around three subscribers for every dollar spent.

SkyWars

Hypixel would announce a new game called SkyWars in June 2015, which rose the server to high player counts. Technoblade would start creating videos on it, but he needed to find a way to stand out. Hypixel would then launch Ranked SkyWars, with the top ten players receiving a Dragon Rider Victory Dance, which spawns a dragon on you when you win. He finished fourth in the Masters Division and has been passively flexing the Dragon Rider in all of his SkyWars videos since then.

BedWars and the 1000 Winstreak

In January 2017, Hypixel released a new game called Bed Wars, which like SkyWars, dominated the player count. Technoblade would make videos about the minigame. However, once he realized he had a 350-win streak, he continued to break the record for the longest win streak. Simon would announce that he would be giving away tons of $100 store credits when he reached a 1,000-win streak. With so much at stake, Technoblade formed a party and played at midnight to avoid top players, while admins actively monitor his games to ensure hackers don't sabotage. He was able to achieve a 1,400-win streak with this before deciding to end it.

Minecraft Monday and the PIG rank

In 2019, DramaAlert host, Keemstar, was hosting a Minecraft event called Minecraft Mondays, in which he'll challenge small and large YouTubers to battle for cash prizes. Technoblade was able to participate in the majority of the events, and despite the organizers constantly assigning him bad teammates to nerf him, he was still able to win four of the weeks, earning him the iconic PIG+++ Rank.

SkyBlock

In June 2019, Hypixel released their own SkyBlock adaptation, which quickly became the most popular minigame on Hypixel. Technoblade would capitalize on this trend, creating videos while pushing boundaries, such as attempting to be the fastest player in the game, obtaining the deadliest sword, and being able to fly. This series would significantly increase his channel's views, taking him from a hundred thousand to around a million per week.

The Potato War

While Technoblade was gathering potatoes to craft Hot Potato books to upgrade his Superior Armor, he decided to go further and discovered that he was in the Top #50 ranking of potatoes. He decided to try to reach #1. However, he would have to beat the current top-holder, "im_a_squid_kid". He would use math and calculations to outwit him, and by then, he would have risen to the position of Top #1. However, im_a_squid_kid would not give up easily and would attempt to return to his original spot. This would spark a conflict between the two, with Technoblade discovering new exploits and im_a_squid_kid forming an alliance to supply him with resources.

The administrators would then declare that whoever reached 500,000,000 potatoes first would win the war and receive a special prize. Technoblade won, and a temporary NPC was installed on the SkyBlock hub, containing potato-themed items distributed to all players and a crown distributed to the winner.

Dante

In late March 2021, a new election was being held, with a new candidate named Dante promising to restore order and strengthen security. Dante won the election with 91% of the vote and revealed his perks, which included taxes on Auctioning and Bazaar, shopping, text chatting, and traveling islands. Guards labeled "Goons" were stationed throughout the islands that would kick players out of shops if they didn't wear masks. (a reference to the COVID-19 pandemic) A majority of events also got canceled.

Players assumed that they could wait for the next election and vote a different candidate. However, it would be revealed that Dante would be the only candidate. A vote started on the server to choose a player to lead a revolt against Dante, Technoblade would be chosen and won the majority of the vote. Techno, who hadn't played SkyBlock for months would require a lot of work to lead the revolt. Techno gathered some of his teammates from the BedWars winstreak and im_a_squid_kid from the Potato War for assisting him. At the end, Techno would recieve a special sword that dealt damage equal to the amount of votes Techno had, which was 180,340. In an epic fight between the whole lobby and Dante, they were able to defeat him. Power was restored and Techno became the Mayor for the month, with a limited Shrine Monument placed on the hub.

Technoblade's video also revealed (by an admin) that during the fight, Dante was accidentally killed way earlier than intended due to a developer command that was unrestricted and left out called /killdante . A random player in the lobby supposedly found the command in the command list and executed it, expecting it to not work, but ended up killing Dante.

Passing

Cancer diagnosis

On August 2021, Technoblade would post a video revealing the reason of his absense on YouTube. He revealed that he had been diagnosed with sarcoma cancer. This shocked the Minecraft community with people in support of a safe recovery. Multiple creators made fundraisers in support of him. Technoblade, along with other creators, also started their own fundraiser, Minecrafters vs. Cancer. On December 2021, Technoblade would post another update video on his cancer diagnosis, saying that he almost had his arm amputated. It seemed that Techno was going to beat cancer, even with a video of him playing Minecraft VR. However...

Death

In July 2022, Technoblade's father would post a video, announcing that Technoblade has unfortunately passed away. This announcement shook the entire Minecraft community, with him being top on Trending on Twitter for days. Hypixel players mourned his on the server, some equipping Technoblade skins. The server temporarily added a Memory Guide on the Main Lobby during the duration of July that takes you to Technoblade's memorial site. The site contains a book where you can write your condolences. Those condolences would be printed onto multiple books that will be given to Technoblade's parents.

To commemorate the 9th anniversary of his channel, a stone statue of Technoblade was added to the memorial site on October 28, 2022.
